MISSOULA – Once again this year local firefighters are looking to help kids stay warm during Montana’s cold winter months.

The Missoula Rural Fire District will be giving out coats to 250 kids at the first event which is set for October 30 at Head Start Missoula.

A change in the program this year is the fundraising page that drive organizers say will allow people to donate faster and directly. That will allow MRFD to order coats in a more timely fashion.

Local firefighters are looking to raise $7,000 to purchase coats for kids in need this year.

MRFD has been running Operation Warm since 2014 and to date have given out over 1,600 coats to children in need around Missoula.

Firefighter Max Kottwitz stopped our studios on Wednesday morning to explain more about Operation Warm and why it’s so important to the community.
