GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Saturday’s stunning loss to North Dakota might have felt unprecedented to Montana Grizzly football fans – and that’s because it was. In seven-plus seasons with the Griz, Bobby Hauck had never lost back-to-back conference games, so a bye week couldn’t come at a better time.

“We have a chance to get some guys healthy, we have a chance to get back to work and we have a chance to go recruit, which is something we need to do, as well,” said Hauck after the 41-14 defeat.

For the second consecutive week, Montana turned the ball over multiple times in the first quarter. That’s problem No. 1.

“The last two weeks, we have given the game away with turnovers,” Hauck said. “It would have been a lot more fun around here the second half to have a closer game to see if we could come in here and get this one. It would have been nice to have a chance to give it a try. It’s just ridiculous. If you can’t take care of the ball, you can’t play.”

Hauck also called the Griz an average football team. Time will tell if they can manage an above-average response following the bye week against No. 14 UC Davis.
