Man suffers serious injuries after being hit by car in Missoula

MISSOULA – A man was taken to the hospital Thursday morning with what are said to be serious injuries after being hit by a car in Missoula.

Missoula Police Department spokesman Sgt. Travis Welsh says the man pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in the 3000 block of South Russell Street — in the area of the YMCA — at around 7:30 a.m.

Sgt. Welsh says the man who was hit was near a crosswalk and was crossing the road when he was hit by a vehicle that was being driven by a man in his 20s.

The driver is cooperating with authorities and an investigation into the incident is still underway.

Missoula Police issued a MEANS alert at 8:15 a.m. advising that South Russell Street is closed in the area of the accident and that drivers should avoid the area.

The road was closed until just after 10:30 a.m. as investigators worked at the scene.

MISSOULA – A Thursday morning accident has closed down part of a busy Missoula road.

The Missoula Police Department reports that South Russell Street is closed to all traffic in the area of the YMCA.

Numerous emergency vehicles remain on the scene as of 8:15 a.m.

A detour has been set up and drivers are urged to find an alternate route to avoid the area.
