Big Horn County reports 56th, 57th COVID-19 deaths Monday

HARDIN — Update 8:40 p.m. Big Horn County health officials announced Monday night the 57th death of a county resident from COVID-19-related complications.

The woman in her 70s had been hospitalized before her death Monday.

It's the county's ninth COVID-related death in December. The county’s fatality rate is 2.8% (57 deaths out of 2,059 total cases).

Big Horn County also reported 18 new COVID-19 cases Monday night, bringing the county's total active cases to 92. The county has 2,059 cumulative cases since the start of the pandemic and 1,910 recoveries.



HARDIN - Big Horn County health officials announced Monday the death of a county resident due to complications from COVID-19.

The latest death is the 56th in the county due to the virus and involved a woman in her 80s who was hospitalized prior to her death on Saturday, Dec. 12, health officials said in a press release.

"It is with deepest sympathies that the Big Horn County COVID-19 Response Unified Coalition sends our condolences to her family, friends, and the entire community of Big Horn County on her tragic death," the press release states.

This is the 8th COVID-19 death in Big Horn County recorded in December. The county’s fatality rate is 2.7% (56 deaths out of 2,041 total cases), although it is significantly higher at 18.4% (30 deaths out of 163 total cases) for persons age 70 and older.

Dawson County health officials also reported two additional COVID-19 deaths on Monday, rising the total number of deaths in that area to 18.
