GLASGOW – A man has been charged with deliberate homicide for the death of a man in Valley County.

Valley County Sheriff Vernon Buerkle said that dispatchers received a call from a man on Thursday who said that John Ersness, 58, was at his home and there may be a fight, according to the Glasgow Courier.

When deputies arrived, they found Ersness leaving the area and questioned him. He reportedly told the deputies that he had been in a fight with the man, that the other man was fine and that he was leaving.

Deputies interviewed Ersness and then allowed him to leave before going to check on the other man. After receiving no response at the door, a deputy forced his way into the residence and found the caller dead.

The Montana Highway Patrol later took Ersness into custody in nearby McCone County and returned him to Valley County, where he was booked into the jail and charged with deliberate homicide.

Authorities have not yet released the name of the victim or the cause of death.
