Attempted burglary leads to police involved shooting in Billings

BILLINGS – An attempted burglary led to a police-involved shooting north of downtown Billings on Sunday afternoon.

Police were called to a house on the 1000 block of North 31st Street around 2 p.m. for a burglary in progress. When police arrived on scene they encountered three suspects in a vehicle and shots were fired.

According to a press release from the Billings Police Department, the suspect vehicle fled and came to a stop near the intersection of 11th Avenue North and North Broadway.

One suspect was shot and transported to a local hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound. One of the other suspects was taken into custody, while the third suspect fled on foot and is still at large.

One Billings police officer has been placed on administrative leave. The officer was not injured.

The investigations division is currently at the scene and has taken over the investigation.

The Billings Clinic was on a controlled access lockdown for one hour before the all clear was given. The lockdown has now been lifted.
