Authorities are investigating a homicide that occurred at a Big Timber apartment building on Tuesday.

Sweet Grass County Sheriff Alan Ronneberg says the incident was reported at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at 413 West 8th Avenue.

“We got a call of a person being shot at a residence here in the city of Big Timber. Officers responded," Ronneberg told MTN News. "They were able to take one suspect into custody and there was one person dead at the scene."

The death was a result of a gunshot wound that happened in the apartment building, according to Ronneberg.

One suspect is in custody, and law enforcement will remain in the area for the duration of the primary investigation.

“There is no threat to the public. The suspected shooter is in custody." Ronneberg said. “We are preparing search warrants.”

The name of the victim has not been released pending the notification of next of kin.

“We’re working on it just within our department at the moment. We will conclude with our findings as soon as we can," Ronneberg said.
