MISSOULA — A predicted weekend winter storm that's expecting to be followed by a cold snap is serving as a reminder winterize travel trailers, RVs and boats before it's too late.

Experts caution that if people don't act now a myriad of parts -- from your water lines and fresh water tanks to your holding tanks -- are at risk of freezing and breaking, leaving you with a costly fix.

Rangitsch Brothers RV in Missoula says their shop has been staying busy with winterizing RVs. A lot of customers are also going to the store and buying antifreeze, bypass kits, and winterizing kits so they can do the job themselves.

Parts manager Marcel Stolp says people usually wait until October to come in, but they've already winterized 30 RVs this week alone.

"If you can do anything else, at least drain all your water points through the low point drains, and leave a heater on, maybe at 50 inside the unit, just to make sure," Stolp said.

With the potential of near-record low temperatures this weekend, it's a good idea to at least swing by your local gas station or auto body shop and buy some antifreeze.
