New wildfire breaks out near Dillon

DILLON - The Beaverhead-Deer Lodge National Forest is reporting a new fire southwest of Dillon. The fire was first reported around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The fire is more than 100 acres and is burning very actively Tuesday afternoon. A large smoke plume is visible from Dillon. This fire is burning close to the MT/ID state line west of Clark Canyon Reservoir.

The fire is called "Bear Creek Fire" and the cause of the fire is unknown.

Fed, State and local resources: 2 Type 1 crews; 2 Type 2 crews; Type 2 Initial Attack crews; 1 Type 2 Helicopters; 1 Type 2 Helicopter; 1 Type 3 Helicopter; 6 Type 6 Engines; 1 tactical Water Tender.

A RED FLAG WARNING is up for SW Montana through Wednesday evening. Hot temperatures, low humidity, and increasing surface winds is producing higher fire danger. Under these conditions, new fire starts are likely and can quickly grow out of control.
