Wildfire near Kila contained after growing to over 260 acres

We are learning more information about a wildland fire that sparked on Sunday afternoon near Kila.

Flathead County Fire Area Manager Lincoln Chute tells MTN that over 260 acres burned in the area of Browns Meadow Road south of the intersection with Smith Lake Road.

The blaze — which is now considered to be out — was the result of a spring burn that went out of control.

The Smith Valley and West Valley fire departments, as well as the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, responded to battle the fire.

A wildfire is burning near Kila in Northwest Montana

The blaze had burned approximately 10 acres as of Sunday evening.

It is burning along Browns Meadow Road south of the intersection with Smith Lake Road.

The fire was reported shortly after 1:30 p.m.
