KALISPELL – While river levels are staying relatively steady, snowmelt and freezing temperatures at night make rivers dangerous in parts of the Flathead Valley.

Flathead County Sheriff Brian Heino tells MTN News that people need to take caution recreating near and on rivers.

Warmer weather brings snowmelt causing the rivers to fill unpredictably. Sheriff Heino added that extra debris like trees and logs can become dislodged and dangerous as they float down the river.

“The debris that’s coming down is much higher than it would be in other times of the year. Rivers are changing there could be log jams where there weren’t before. So, always be cautious and know where you’re going in the river,” Heino said.
