KALISPELL – Once an Eagle Scout, always an Eagle Scout.
Glacier National Park Superintendent Jeff Mow is one of eight people in Montana to receive a rare award from the National Eagle Scout Association.
Mow says that recipients of the award exhibit devotion to their profession, community and integrity.
Exhibiting all of these traits, Mow was awarded the National Outstanding Eagle Scout Award which came as a surprise to Mow — who credits scouting for his passion for the outdoors.
Mow was giving a presentation to a local scout organization when he was presented the award by the National Eagle Scout Association.
He draws parallels between his job as superintendent of Glacier National Park and being an Eagle Scout saying he was taught to always be prepared.
“When you go hiking you carry the ten essentials, again the idea is that you’re not going to need those for that particular day but in case something comes up you’re prepared,” Mow told MTN News.
“And I think how we manage Glacier Park we have to be thinking the same way. We have to be prepared if a visitor gets hurt, or if we have wildfire,” he added.
Mow also has some advice for aspiring Eagle Scouts — persevere — because you never know where one opportunity could lead.
