ST. REGIS — Update 10:00 a.m. July 9, 2026 — The Lolo National Forest said U.S. Forest Service firefighters, along with Montana Department of Natural Resources crews and Superior Volunteer Fire Department and St. Regis Volunteer Fire Department personnel, are working the Fourmile Fire Thursday morning. The fire is located southeast of St. Regis.
The fire is estimated at around 10 to 12 acres as of 9:30 a.m. and is mostly creeping and smoldering in heavy downed fuels. Smoke may be visible from Interstate 90 and the St. Regis area.
Crews worked the fire through the night and are constructing a handline around the fire perimeter on Thursday.
Current resources include one helicopter, a 20-person crew, two engines, and several pieces of heavy equipment, for a total of 32 personnel.
Original story 5:05 a.m. July 9, 2026 — A forest fire is currently burning in the Four Mile drainage east of St. Regis, according to the Mineral County Sheriff's Office.
As of Thursday morning, the fire was reported as 4 acres.
Authorities are asking the public to stay away from the area and avoid unnecessary travel near the fire. Keeping roads clear allows firefighters and emergency personnel to safely access the scene.
