WEST GLACIER — A cold front moves through Western Montana Saturday afternoon bringing wind, rain, snow, and much cooler air to Glacier National Park.

This incoming inclement weather has prompted closures on Going-to-the-Sun Road.

Temporary closures start Friday night from Avalanche Creek to Rising Sun.

According to Glacier National Park, the temporary closure is expected to last through at least Monday, October 12.

The Going-to-the-Sun Road section between the West Entrance and Avalanche Creek is expected to remain open during this time.

As a reminder, all east-side park roads remain closed this season due to COVID-19 operation requirments.

According the National Park Service release, "visitors are encouraged to prepare for inclement weather if they plan to travel to the park this weekend. Check the weather forecast and park road status before you visit, dress for varying degrees of weather, carry the ten essentials emergency items, and be on alert for potential hazards on roadways and trails."
