Hundreds of military children received backpacks filled with school supplies Saturday thanks to Operation Homefront.

Operation Homefront, an organization that works to build strong, stable, and secure military families, has distributed over 350,000 backpacks since 2008.

In Great Falls, 250 backpacks and necessary school supplies were given to military children.

Program coordinator Kathleen Coleman said events like Saturday's are important to those defending the homefront.

"Our mission is to build strong, stable, and secure military families so they can thrive, not simply get by, in the communities they've worked so hard to protect," she said. "And that's why we do the back-to-school brigade."

Coleman added the back-to-school brigade helps alleviate military families' budgets.

Operation Homefront will also hold a gift card giveaway later this month.
