Montana’s unemployment rate has been steady at 3.5%. as the state added more than 872 jobs through the month of January

Governor Steve Bullock’s office issued a release Monday stating the unemployment rate for Montana and for other counties as well.

Cascade County is currently sitting at 4.2% with 36,635 people currently unemployed, which is up over 400 from last year.

Dave Ketelhohn with Great Falls Job Service says the change in the weather will bring back seasonal jobs that we usually don’t have in the winter, which can help those who are temporarily laid off.

“You can well imagine the construction jobs are firing back up now in springtime and it turns around to that time of year when actually, employers are now having a hard time finding those people,” said Ketelhohn.

He added that if you are struggling to find or keep a job, they have resources at Job Service to help job seekers identify what it is they can be doing to help in their search. He said, “Talk the talk of the new employer that you’re aiming for, it’s about the employers needs so we help job seekers identify what those are through our experience working with local employers.”

The impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) is not yet known; Governor Bullock said “While we don’t yet have an understanding of coronavirus and its economic impact in Montana, I am taking aggressive action to reduce the spread to keep as many Montanans healthy as possible now and protect Montana’s economic strength in the longterm.”

Great Falls Job Service also had a community job fair scheduled in April…That event has been postponed at this time and we will update once it is rescheduled.

The agency is still available to assist those searching for a job at this time. It is at 1018 7th Street South and open weekdays until 5 p.m.; click here to visit the website .
