Early Sunday fire in Missoula at forestry facility put out by crews

MISSOULA — The Missoula Rural Fire District (MRFD) were called to a structure fire near the 3000 block of North Avenue Sunday morning.

According to the press release a call came in for an industrial fire at Roseburg Forestry Products.

MRFD answered the call for help at approximately 6:19 a.m. and were at the scene for several hours.

The press release states that flames and black smoke were reported by a passerby and responding units could see the column of smoke from some distance away as they were headed to the call.

The press release details that the first units on scene reported a fire in the pre-dry facility and began fire attack with Roseburg employees already putting water on the fire.

The fire was detailed as difficult in the press release stating that firefighters had to gain access to several areas in which the flames were difficult to get to.

36 firefighters, including: 5 engines, 2 truck companies, 4 water tenders, and 3 command vehicles responded to the incident.

It is unknown what the cause of the fire was at the time of the press release, as the pre-dry facility was not being used at the time of the fire.

All assisting units were, Missoula Emergency Services, Missoula County Sheriff’s Officers, and the Missoula City Fire Department., The Florence Fire Department, East Missoula Fire Department and Frenchtown.
