KALISPELL — Law enforcement in Kalispell plan to increase their presence for this week’s Northwest Montana fair.

Kalispell Police Officer Colton Bagnoli says that call volume goes up the week of the fair as more people in town means more calls to 9-1-1 dispatch. KPD is also taking a no-nonsense approach with possible DUI's at this year's fair.

“We do have DUI enforcement step shifts and select traffic enforcement shifts through special grants, so we can get more officers out on the street," Bagnoli explained.

He also wants to remind people to exercise caution while crossing the streets in the area. Bagnoli notes that in years past, law enforcement struggled to keep pedestrians safe crossing the busy street outside the venue.

The Northwest Montana Fair takes place from August 14 until August 18 at the Flathead County Fairgrounds.
