WHITEFISH — A popular outdoor event in Whitefish has been canceled this weekend due to poor weather.
The skijouring event, where participants are pulled behind a horse on skies weaving through obstacles and going over jumps, was called off due to warm weather.
Organizers explained that warm weather and possible rain in the forecast lead to possible dangerous conditions for horses and skijoring participants.
Whitefish Skijoring Committee Organizer Mike Righetti said it was in the best interest for everyone involved to cancel this year’s event.
“You gotta pull the trigger when you think it’s right and the committee got together and thought that this was the best thing to do for the community, for the committee, for the animals, for everybody,” said Righetti.
The 2020 Whitefish Skijorning event has not been rescheduled, but Righetti expects the competition to be back in action next year.
