WHITEFISH — Whitefish is preparing for the state's Phase 2 reopening beginning June 1.
City Manager Dana Smith says the city is preparing for an influx in tourists as the next phase opens lodging to non-essential travelers, meaning anyone can visit.
Phase 2 also increases the number of people allowed to gather in public places by 75% percent and ends the 14-day quarantine for out of state travelers.
However, Smith says preventative measures like social distancing are still required in the city.
"We want our visitors to come and take care of our community and be considerate that we have a risk being a destination for many visitors,” she told MTN News.
“And to please social distance, follow the recommendations for wearing a mask in public setting where social distancing is not."
Smith says Whitefish is working with the county health department and local hospitals to ensure they're ready to respond in case Whitefish does see a spike in cases due to tourists.
She is asking people to continue to social distance, wear a mask when possible, and continue using hand sanitizer.
