The man who threatened a mail carrier and was arrested at gunpoint by police in downtown Billings Monday night faces up to 40 years in prison.
George Douglas Limberhand, 36, was scheduled to make his first appearance in Yellowstone County Justice Court Monday.
He faces one felony charge of robbery, which carries a sentence between two and 40 years and fine of up to $50,000. Authorities are investigating whether to file additional charges.
Prosecutors stated in court documents that a U.S. Postal Service carrier reported to police that a man held him up with a knife, and he managed to break away before anything was stolen.
Police found a man in downtown Billings, later identified as Limberhand, holding a knife near the intersection of Fourth Avenue North and North 27th Street.
The man ignored several commands from police to drop the knife, according to prosecutors.
Billings police fired two Taser rounds into the man, blasted him with pepper spray and knocked him to the ground with a patrol car before they were able to detain him for the arrest.
Limberhand is in Yellowstone County jail. His bail was set for $100,000.
