MISSOULA — Outdoor burning season will open throughout Missoula County on March 1.
Campfires outside of Missoula city limits, that are 2 feet or less, do not warrant a burn permit. However, slash burning, vegetation disposal, and bonfires are prohibited without an outdoor burn permit. Bonfire burn locations within the Missoula city limits must be on at least one acre of land.
Before lighting a fire in Missoula County you must activate your permit either online or by calling the automated activation phone line at 1-888-583-6497 after 9:00 a.m. on the day you wish to burn. If burning is restricted you will not be able to activate your permit.
