MISSOULA — Sunday brought the promise of spring or more weeks of winter weather, and a community theater in Missoula is making a competition out of the holiday.

Missoula's Roxy Theater offered a chance to win free movie passes and free popcorn for the year, but the participants had to watch the film Groundhog Day not once, but eight times in a row.

The theater is calling it all day Groundhog Day.

This is the third year in a row the theater has done this competition, and in the beginning, they only had 5 people complete the challenge, but last year they only had two people drop out of the competition.

Mike Steinberg, the Executive Director of the Roxy, said the theater is focused on community development and this event brings a certain type of community together.

“The group of people in here want a real intense, die-hard movie fanatic experience," said Steinberg.

The Roxy held a public screening of Groundhog Day at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.
