The CDC is advising everyone on safety precautions to take to avoid getting the coronavirus, but this is especially important for senior citizens.

Seniors around Bozeman seem to be taking safety warnings very seriously, but they still need food and basic necessities like everyone else.

“We came up with the idea of shop for a senior. So, those essential needs can be purchased and delivered to the seniors front door,” explained Margaret Mason, the Seniors Program Director at HRDC.

Bozeman’s HRDC started the Shop 4 a Senior Program to help and give others the opportunity to help.

“We have put that out to the community through our volunteer website, our portal. So, community members can sign up. They can go to the hrdc.org and sign up as a volunteer and these opportunities are posted,” Mason said.

And already the program is proving to be successful.

“We posted an opportunity on Monday and it was snatched up in 5 minutes,” she said.

Organizers want seniors to utilize the service regardless of their financial status.

“What we want for seniors to know is that this service is available and it’s available to all seniors.”

And both the shoppers and seniors remain confidential.

“People shopping for the items will not know who they’re shopping for and then we will have staff volunteers deliver these items.”
