MISSOULA – We recently told you about a petition started by District 96 State Representative Adam Hertz asking the city to consider putting a traffic light at the intersection of Mullan Road and Flynn Lane in Missoula.

MTN News talked with Missoula City Engineer, Kevin Slovarp about where the city stands on the issue. He says the idea of putting a traffic light or roundabout has been a long-discussed topic.

The city has reached out to the Montana Department of Transportation about adding a light to the busy intersection south of Hellgate school.

Slovarp says the MDOT has turned down the idea and the eventual plan is to put their efforts into placing a traffic light at the intersection of Mary Jane and Mullan once Mary Jane has been extended.

“We’ve really tied with what we can do from them as far as making improvements to Mary Jane and putting a signal there or even a traffic control device at Flynn,” Slovarp said.

There is no timetable as to when Mary Jane will be extended to intersect with Mullan.
