MISSOULA – Glacier Ice Rink is used to having its skaters pull on a sweater before they take the ice – but Saturday’s sweaters were a little different.

The second annual ugly sweater skate was held Saturday night to kick off the holiday events that are happening on both sheets of ice at the fairgrounds.

Glacier will soon transform their rink into a Winter Wonderland complete with snowballs, trees and lights turning the rink into a holiday eutopia.

Then on the December 22, Glacier Ice rink will have Skate with Santa where our sources tell us Santa will be making a special grand entrance.

“It’s the biggest public skate event we have.  This year we are actually trying something different too.  We are going to run large blocks of skating times because usually, our public skates are two hours,” Glacier Ice rink Executive Director Laura Henning said.

“So, we are extending the sessions out and we will have 8 hours of skating a day.  Hopefully, we can accommodate more people and then it won’t be super busy at one time so we are kind of hoping that it’s going to be a better experience for more people to have time to skate,” she added.

Glacier Ice Rink is a non-profit so when you spend money on a public skate you are supporting youth and adult ice sports programs in Missoula.
