MISSOULA – Missoula County commissioners approved the closure of Deschamps Lane west of Missoula amid concerns of heavy rainfall eroding the road.

Commissioners are concerned about deep rutting, potholes, standing water and other damage along the mostly clay road, made worse by the current heavy rainfall. The road is closed between LaValle Creek Bridge and Mullan road to all thru traffic and accessible to residents only.

Missoula County Public Works staff ask that drivers adhere to this closure, as further damage caused by unauthorized traffic will raise costs for road repair and divert crew time away from other problem areas in the county.

The clay material will need time to dry out before heavy equipment can be used to smooth out the road without further damaging it.

Closure signs are in place at the intersections with Roller Coaster Road and Mullan Road. Drivers headed south on Deschamps Lane should use Roller Coaster Road as a detour.
