MISSOULA – A mountain biker is recovering after suffering serious injuries in a weekend accident near Missoula.

Missoula Rural Fire District Assistant Cheif of Operations Paul Finlay says emergency crews were called out to the Dry Gulch area in the Deep Creek Drainage shortly before 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Finlay says MRFD and Missoula Emergency Services Inc. responded to the incident –which was located several miles up Dry Gulch Road — and had to hike about ¼ of a mile from the road to the patient’s location, in difficult terrain.

It took just over an hour for responders to reach the patient, begin treatment and then get him out of the woods to a waiting ambulance.

The patient suffered serious injuries but is expected that he will make a full recovery, according to Finlay.

The patient had been riding with two friends, one of whom stayed with the patient while the other went for help and guided responders to the scene.
