Crews knock down Missoula house fire

MISSOULA — Firefighters were called to reports of a house fire in the 3800 block of Mount Avenue on Thursday morning.

A neighbor called 9-1-1 after seeing flames coming out of the home at approximately 10:30 a.m.

When Missoula Rural firefighters arrived in the 3800 block of Mount Avenue, they found a single story home with flames coming from tow of the front windows.

Firefighters had the fire knocked down in about 15 minutes and limited the fire damage to the kitchen area.

The home was unoccupied at the time of the incident. Unfortunately, a pet ferret perished due to smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and no injuries have been reported.

Seventeen firefighters responded to the blaze and MRFD received aid from the Missoula Fire Department.

Missoula Rural Fire District Chief Chris Newman told MTN News that crews were able to knock down the flames.

No injuries have been reported and nobody was in the house when the blaze broke out.

Chief Newman says they are still looking into what sparked the fire.

The Missoula City Fire Department also responded to the scene.
