MISSOULA — With the River City Roots festival being canceled due to the pandemic some alternate events are going on around town like at Caras Park, where they hosted the "Draw Your Roots" event Saturday.

Missoulians could pay 5 dollars to draw pictures with chalk on the sidewalk in Caras Park.

Participants could either bring their own chalk or it was provided and social distancing and COVID prevention procedures were followed.

One Artist says he hopes the event showcases art in Missoula.

"Getting people out here to do art is a big deal for me because art is kind of being taken away To bring people together to show what Missoula actually means to the people and to show a lot of people who aren’t from here what its all about and there are a lot of different artists showing what Missoula is all about," Brandon Moore the artist behind Backcountry said about the project.

Moore’s art work depicts snowboarding which he says is a good representation of Missoula. He also says that he thinks floating, hunting and the Griz would be some other good examples of Missoula.
