MISSOULA — Missoulians won't get the chance to take in a summertime favorite this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Missoula Symphony Association announced on Tuesday that this summer’s Symphony in the Park concert has been canceled.

“While we are disappointed that we will not have this community favorite event this year, be assured that creative minds are already thinking about 2021," Missoula Symphony Association board president Jim Valeo said.

The Symphony in the Park event -- a collaboration between the Missoula Symphony Association and First Security Bank, along with many local businesses and individuals as event sponsors -- has been a staple in downtown Missoula for more than 15 years.

“Our support of this important annual community event is unwavering. We join the other concert donors in leaving our sponsorship money to help fund the Symphony’s regular 2020-2021 concert series," Scott Burke with First Security Bank said in a news release. "We will see you at Symphony in the Park, next year.”

The summer concert, held each year at Caras Park, is a popular event that typically draws thousands of spectators to downtown Missoula.
