A Missoula police officer was involved in a Wednesday morning shooting on the city's northside.

The Missoula Police Department responded for a report of a disturbance at the Hollywood Trailer Court at North Russell and Cooley streets around 10:30 a.m.

Missoula PD spokesman Sgt. Travis Welsh said in a media briefing that the man was uncooperative and officers learned he had a firearm.

The officers engaged in lengthy dialogue with the male and ordered him several times to drop his weapon and at one-point, shots were fired and the man was injured, Welsh stated in a news release.

"EMS responded, officers rendered immediate first aid. One male has been transported to the hospital. Right now our investigators are on scene to try to unravel what exactly took place," Welsh said.

Due to the involvement of MPD officers, Interim Chief Mike Colyer has requested the assistance of the Montana Department of Justice – Division of Criminal Investigation.
