BUTTE – Authorities say seat belts saved a family of three who went flying over Homestake Pass over the weekend.

The Butte Silver Bow Fire Department released dramatic photos of the incident in a Facebook post.

They say a couple and their daughter were traveling westbound on Interstate 90 near mile marker 232 on Saturday when the driver lost control of the vehicle sending them down into a ravine.

Two of the passengers had to be lifted out of the wreckage, while the third was able to walk back up to the road. The family has not been identified, but all were taken to the hospital and are reportedly in good condition.

Officials say the fact that everyone was wearing seat belts prevented this from being much worse.
