GREAT FALLS – The young man who died after leading law enforcement officers on a chase in Blaine County on Tuesday has been identified as Rowdy Denny, 18, of Rocky Boy, according to the Havre Herald.

The chase began Tuesday at 8:38 p.m., according to Lt. John Colby of the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office, when a deputy tried to pull Denny over near mile marker 421 along U.S. Highway 2 on suspicion of auto theft.

Denny didn’t obey commands to pull over and the chase began; he led officers north on Elloam Road and lost control of the Dodge pickup truck he was driving after the road turned to gravel, Colby said.

He was thrown out of the pickup by the force of the crash. Denny was taken to Northern Montana Hospital and then flown to Benefis Health System in Great Falls, where he died early Wednesday.

The Montana Highway Patrol is still investigating the incident and there is no information yet on whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
