GREAT FALLS – The partial government shutdown is continuing and the White House has warned there’s no end in sight.
Right now, there are around 800,000 workers affected by the shutdown.
Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney told reporters more than 400,000 of them will eventually get paid.
However, he said the 380,000 furloughed workers require an act of Congress for backpay.
Among the federal agencies affected is the National Weather Service (NWS), whose employees are currently working without pay.
In Montana, there are four NWS offices including Great Falls, Glasgow, Missoula, and Billings.
A post on the Great Falls office’s Facebook page states they will continue to operate 24/7 through the shutdown to provide reliable weather forecasts and warning information.
The 24 employees affected at the Great Falls office are unable to comment about the shutdown.
Others affected by the shutdown and working without pay include federal law enforcement, the Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Patrol, and Forest Service firefighters.
The Forest Service and National Parks Services are on temporary leave without pay.
