“If you do happen to become positive for it, the coronavirus, if you are the primary caretaker for the pets in the household, trying to make sure don’t have contact with those pets," said Craig.

Becoming hospitalized or becoming severely ill could limit a pet owner's ability purchase supplies for their pets, including food and medication, if needed.

Veterinarians suggest for pet owners to make a plan with a trusted friend of family members who can help care for your pet, should the owner be unable to do so.
Also, make sure vaccines are up to date if a pet needs to be boarded.

“If you have a dog that is on any long-term medications, making sure you have a supply of those, in the instance that we may have to start shutting down, in the other areas of industry. You will be able to take care of your pet appropriately at that time," said Craig.
