Driver killed when car hits horse on Highway 212

A 67-year-old man was killed Thursday evening when a car he was driving hit a horse on Highway 212.

The Montana Highway Patrol reports the fatal crash happened at 10:52 p.m. at mile marker 1.5 in Big Horn County.

Several horses ran into the roadway, the patrol said, and the driver of a westbound Volkswagen Jetta was unable to avoid hitting one of the horses.

The man from Fishtail died at the scene. His name has not been released.

The patrol did not provide information on the horse that was struck.
