MISSOULA — Missoula based Essential Eats Distributors has provided Chippewa Cree Tribal members with 50 bikes to help put on a diabetes awareness bike ride that's planned for Sept. 17.

Rocky Boy's Agency diabetes prevention coordinator Terrie Stump says that they have been trying to schedule the event but the help from essential eats made the event possible.

The bike ride will be 10 miles through Box Elder and Stump hopes that it will raise diabetes awareness while promoting healthy lifestyle options.

"It's pretty hard for families to find the healthier foods to eat and kids are not moving as much and those are the things that we are going to be trying to talk about," Stump said about the program.

Stump told MTN News that the COVID-19 pandemic has made scheduling the event hard but they are pushing through.

She added that there still might be some changes to make the event as safe as possible.
