A Montana veteran was awarded a Bronze Star medal in 1971, but he finally received it on Wednesday.
Al Shryer of Great Falls was looking at his DD form 2-14 when he noticed he was awarded a Bronze Star medal for his service in Vietnam.
A Bronze Star is a United States decoration awarded to members of the Armed Forces for either heroic achievement or service, or meritorious achievement or service in a combat zone.
Shryer says he is thankful his service wasn't for nothing.
"What we did over there just wasn't appreciated by very few people or that was appreciated by very few people so to get this it kinda of validates me being over there and what I did."
U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) had worked with Shryer to help him receive the honor.
