MontanaFair cancels more events, fair still scheduled for August

BILLINGS — All open competitive events at MontanaFair in 2020 have been canceled. The decision impacts more than 10,000 entries for areas including culinary, livestock, art, photography, quilts and dressmaking, fair officials said Wednesday.

“It may seem like we have unlimited space at MetraPark, but that is not the case,” said MontanaFair General Manager Bill Dutcher. “We have rearranged our livestock and animal-holding areas to allow for proper distancing in line with current rules. These changes, along with the ongoingremoval of the grandstands, leaves us with little available display space and forces this change.”

4-H and FFA programs in Department A (Agriculture) and Department N (Non-agriculture) are not affected by the changes for this year’s fair. Events for these programs were approved in early June by the Yellowstone County Board of County Commissioners.

MontanaFair also announced Wednesday a limited-time opportunity for ValuPass buyers to get a refund. ValuPass is MontanaFair’s “pay one price” ticket allowing holders access to all events and days on the fairgrounds for one bargain price.

All concerts, rodeos, and supercross were canceled last week to ensure enough room was available indoors for livestock and 4-H events.

An announcement concerning the 2020 MontanaFair will be made on June 29. The MontanaFair is scheduled to begin Aug. 7.
