One person is dead after a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning west of Whitehall.

According to Montana Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 12:56 a.m. Saturday.

A vehicle traveling westbound on I-90 left the roadway around mile marker 242 and veered into the median before going down an embankment.

The vehicle came to rest on railroad tracks, and the driver was dead at the scene when MHP arrived.

MHP said road conditions were bare and dry, and the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. Alcohol and speed are suspected as factors.

No other injuries resulting from the crash were reported.

No further information was available about the driver's identification, if the driver was thrown from the vehicle, if the vehicle rolled, or which side of I-90 it ultimately came to rest on.

We will update this story if we get more details.
