SHELBY, Mont. — BNSF confirmed that multiple train cars derailed in a Shelby rail yard Monday morning, according to a spokesperson for the railroad company.
The BNSF spokesperson said the derailment took place at 6:39 a.m. Six train cars had derailed; however, there were no injuries reported nor hazardous materials released.
In a post made on social media, the Toole County Sheriff's Office said the derailment took place north of Roosevelt Highway near Ben Taylor, Inc.
The Toole County Sheriff's Office said roads surrounding the area had been closed due to "the potential presence of hazardous materials." Additionally, the sheriff's office said there had not been any reported leaks in the area. The public was asked to avoid the area as crews respond.
A social media post made by the Shelby Public School District says this derailment prompted schools to move their students to the nearby airport for parent pickup.
