KALISPELL — Two grizzly bear clubs were killed on the railroad tracks southeast of Trego, according to Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks.

US Forest Service notified FWP of the incident Wednesday evening. Upon investigation, FWP was able to identify one cub was a female, but they were not able to identify the gender of the other cub. FWP staff have not been able to locate the adult female that would have been accompanying the cubs.

In 2019 alone, there have been 44 known or probable grizzly bear mortalities within the Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem across Northwest Montana. Of those 44 deaths, eight have involved train collisions, which is the most in a single recorded year.
