KALISPELL – An avalanche watch is in effect until Wednesday at noon for parts of Northwest Montana.
The Flathead Avalanche Center issued the watch for the Whitefish Range, Swan Range, Flathead Range and Glacier National Park.
On the center’s website, officials say the avalanche danger is rising as new and drifted snow accumulates. They said people can trigger small avalanches on steep slopes, mostly near ridgelines.
With heavy snow and gusty winds forecasted for Tuesday night, dangerous conditions are likely to develop overnight.
