HELENA – A 16-year-old Helena girl is dead after a crash east of Missoula Wednesday night.

The other person in the car, a 22-year-old man also from Helena, was flown to St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula with life-threatening injuries.

Granite County Sheriff Scott Dunkerson says that shortly before 9 p.m. emergency crews were dispatched to a single vehicle crash on Interstate 90, approximately 3 miles west of Drummond.

Both occupants of the vehicle were ejected and one person died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. Another person in the vehicle was flown to a Missoula hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The westbound lane of I-90 was shut down for about two hours. Sheriff Dunkerson says the Montana Highway Patrol and the Granite County Sheriff Office are continuing to investigate the crash.

The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
