POLSON — Authorities have released the name of a motorcyclist who died after hitting a deer.

Lake County Sheriff Don Bell says that Samuel Keirle, 26, of Bigfork died after hitting a deer on Montana Highway 35 near mile marker 28.

Authorities were notified of the accident at approximately 9 p.m. on July 16 and it was determined by first responders that the motorcyclist -- later identified as Keirle -- who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, had died, according to Sheriff Bell.

The Montana Highway Patrol is conducting the crash investigation.
