Firefighters are still on the scene of a house fire in Florence that started in the garage and spread throughout the home.

Crews were dispatched to the fire at a house on Creek Hollow Way in Florence around 4:45 p.m. Thursday, according to John Ames, public information officer with the Florence Rural Fire District.

When the first units arrived on scene, the garage was fully engulfed and the fire was spreading. This prompted a call for assistance from Missoula Rural, Lolo, Stevensville, and Three Mile fire departments.

All occupants of the home safely evacuated.

No injuries are reported at this time, but Ames explained that while firefighters were battling the blaze, a roof collapsed.

"Our big thing is making sure everybody's safe," he said. "We did have a roof collapse which caused us to go into defense mode where we're attacking from the outside."

The fire started in the garage, but an official cause has not been determined. The house is a total loss.

As of 8 p.m. Thursday, firefighters were expected to remain on scene for at least three more hours to monitor hot spots.
