KALISPELL — A motorcyclist died on Saturday morning after colliding with pickup truck pulling a camper trailer in Northwest Montana.

The crash happened on US Highway 2 near mile marker 80 in Lincoln County, west of Marion at around 10:30 a.m.

The Montana Highway Patrol reports the accident happened as a group of motorcycles were passing the pickup truck and camper.

Two of the motorcycles passed safely but a third motorcycle -- driven by a 65-year-old man from Kalispell – failed to pass as the truck and trailer slowed to make a left-hand turn.

MHP says the victim attempted to slow down but lost control of his motorcycle, causing it to slide. He was then run over by camper trailer and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The three people in the pickup truck – a 44-year-old man, a 37-year-old woman and a 6-year-old girl, all from Kalispell – were not hurt in the accident.

MHP is continuing to investigate the accident.
