B.J. Novak parties with ex Mindy Kaling for his 40th birthday

B.J. Novak just turned 40. And the former co-star of “The Office” did it with ex-girlfriend Mindy Kaling by his side.

Along with Kaling, the comic actor and children’s book author celebrated his new decade in style in L.A. with comedians Nathan Fielder and Bob Saget, former “Office” colleagues Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, and musician John Mayer, who performed for the crowd.

In between cake and cocktails and a speech by Kaling, Novak was given a mock City of Los Angeles proclamation “signed” by mayor Eric Garcetti, declaring July 31 “B.J. Novak Day.”

Fischer posted a sweet tribute to Instagram, writing: “Out to celebrate the milestone birthday of @picturesoftext and hang with some old friends. BJ, you sure do know how to throw a party! Love you BJ! Happy Birthday!!”

Kinsey shared a picture of herself with Novak looking dapper.

“If you ever have the opportunity to sit next to B.J. at a fancy party I highly recommend it. He is dapper, charming, funny and will share his dessert with you! Happy Birthday @picturesoftext !! I hope you are having an awesome day! ❤️🎂🎉,” she wrote.

Mayer made a collage for his friend.

“Happy Birthday B.J. Novak, aka @picturesoftext. A true original, a man of boundless intellectual POV, and the single most disciplined creative thinker I’ve ever met,” he wrote.

As of Thursday morning Kaling hadn’t posted anything about the event on social media. The two entertainers remain close after their breakup, and last month celebrated Kaling’s own 40th at a cocktail party at San Vicente Bungalows in West Hollywood. Novak is also her daughter’s godfather.

Novak said he appreciated all the love. “What a wonderful birthday to celebrate with so many people who make my life what it is — thank you to literally everyone in it for your ❤️ in @’s and IRLs [in real life]. Grateful,” he wrote on Instagram.
