BALTIMORE, MD (WMAR) — Baltimore residents can now get the chance to apply for water bill affordability with a new assistance program.

The Baltimore H2O Assists program will begin accepting application on July 1 at the Abel Wolman Building, located at 200 Holliday St., Room 8, Baltimore MD 21202. Residents enrolled in the existing Senior Citizen or Hardship water billing assistance programs on June 1, 2019, are automatically enrolled in the BH2O Assists program. The BH2O Assists will replace the Senior Discount and Hardship programs.

The Department of Public Works started the Baltimore H2O Assists program in an effort to address residents concerns over rising water bill costs. The program is expected to lower an average bill for a household of three from about $98 per month to about $61 per month. Eligibility for households larger than 3 people will be based on the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

Customers under the BH2O Plus Program with household income at or below 50% of the Federal Poverty Level (currently $10,665 for a household of 3) will receive an annual credit of $257.

Enrollment for the BH2O Assists program lasts for 12 months. A reminder to re-enroll will be sent to customers before the enrollment expires.

For more information on the program and eligibility, call the Customer Support and Services Division at 410-396-8963, or visit them at 200 Holliday Street, Room 8.
